General Use

First things first: do not remove the foam from the blue measurement tube. It’s what makes the Original Floating Rain Gauge® float.

For the most accurate readings, place your rain gauge at least 15 feet from buildings, trees, fences, rooflines, or other large obstructions. Open areas generally provide the best results.

Like all residential rain gauges, the World’s Coolest Rain Gauge® is designed for practical everyday rainfall tracking rather than laboratory-grade measurement. Wind, storms, nearby trees, and rainfall angle can all affect readings, so it is normal for gauges located a short distance apart to show slightly different amounts.

Solid Copper Rain Gauge – 24" Garden Stake – Winter Safe - World's Coolest Rain Gauge Co.The floating blue measurement tube rises as rainwater enters the copper container, making rainfall easy to read from across the yard. Simply read the rainfall amount where the top rim of the copper container meets the scale on the blue tube. After checking your rainfall total, you can empty the gauge or leave the water inside to track rainfall over multiple days.

To empty the gauge, remove the copper container from the holder and carefully pour out the water while holding a finger over the top to keep the floating tube in place. You may also remove the blue tube before emptying if preferred.

Watch how to empty your rain gauge

Over time, the solid copper container will naturally darken and develop a rich patina. Depending on your environment, the copper may become deep brown or gradually develop blue-green highlights.

The rain gauge is designed to remain outdoors year-round in most climates, although bringing it indoors during severe winter weather can help protect it and keep it looking its best. Lacquered copper finishes should always be brought indoors during winter months to preserve the protective coating.
