How to Protect Your Vegetable Garden During a Heat Wave

A few days of extreme heat can change a thriving vegetable garden almost overnight. Tomatoes stop setting fruit, lettuce bolts, cucumbers wilt, and even well-watered plants may look like they're dying by mid-afternoon.

Fortunately, most vegetables can survive a heat wave if you help them conserve water and reduce stress. The goal isn't to make plants grow during extreme weather—it's to help them stay healthy until cooler temperatures return.

Know the Difference Between Temporary Wilting and Heat Stress
